Marc came by for a visit last Friday. Did a lot of walking. First to Club 11, for the view, then on to the Movies, to eat and watch Rescue Dawn (recommended). Saw this trailer for Halo 3 before the movie started. Pretty cool:

Afterwards we went on to the Westergasfabriek, to Discovery07, a party/science/art expo. Saw Maaike Hartjes give a speech about the chemistry of love. I liked it, but then, I’m a bit of a fan of her comics.

But the most fun was just talking to my old friend. Snif… sterk spul die Fisherman’s Friends.

Yes, I tasted the sweet nectar of Halo 3 last night. Now to play it on a big HD screen.

We’ve got to stop the release of Halo 3!!

While checking up on what muons were while reading Charles Stross’s Singularity Sky, I came upon this amazing image:

It’s an image of the Moon, taken 700 meters below the surface of the Earth, over a ten year period. The shadow indicates a number of missing muons (a kind of elementary particle) over this period. Amazing that you can “see” the Moon behind 700 meters of stuff! Of course there are easier ways to see the Moon…

Great, all these superheroes movies. When are we getting movies based on Neederlandsche comic-book heroes?? Dick Bosch? Dirkjan? Come on, I’m sure they’d make just as much money as the American ones!

“Only” 20.5 lightyears away, a planet has been discovered orbiting another star, Gliese 581. The estimated surface temperature is between 0 and 40 degrees celsius. Gravity:1.6 times what it is over here. Tough, but with some more visits to the gym, it should be manageable. Exciting!

The new IPCC report make me sad. Especially the fact that countries that have contributed the least to global warming are the least able to defend themselves against it. Africa and the developing countries in Asia especially.

We’ll also be hit over here, but we’ve got the experience and, crucially, funds, to deal with it, for the time being, it seems.

And yet, I’m still going to be flying a lot next month, one of the best ways to increase global warming. I’ve gotta find a way to compensate!

They are having a go at YouTube again. This time it’s the Thai government, blocking all access to YouTube in the country.

At least it’s not as bad as the UAE, where Flickr and Twitter are blocked (Bruce Sterling is there at the moment and posted screenshots (1, 2) of what you see when you try to access these sites).

Flickr now has collections. These are like sets of sets. A way to organize your photosets.

I already made some. I will probably rearrange them at some point in the future though, particularly the ‘Home’ one.

Been playing NBA Street Vol. 2 for the Gamecube with my mates recently. It’s cool. I borrowed it from Alexander last weekend. It’s one of those unrealistic basketball games, as opposed to the more realistic NBA 2K I used to play on the Dreamcast.

Last night, Joost, Milton, Gijs and I played. Before, we had dinner at a tourist trap, Torado, right in front on Tuschinski. How could we fall for that? Expensive, unhealthy food. Don’t go there!
